bebito

i had so much fun hanging out at the chatterbox tavern with rachel, the creative hands of bebito, while photographing her work this week.  not only did i discover a new place to hang out (did you know that the chatterbox has been around before prohibition?  and they have live music 7 days a week, mostly local jazz artists!), but i got to play with some incredibly and intricately crafted creatures.  :)  i’ve been looking forward to this photo shoot for a while.

staying warm in the kitchen

cooking is my “safety blanket” of sorts (to the delight of anyone i live with).  and since i’ve had the horrible winter blues the last couple weeks, i’ve been in the kitchen a whole lot.  devil’s food chocolate cake, a couple batches of chana masala and homemade naan, whole wheat bread, banana buckwheat pancakes, challah bread, chocolate chip cookies, quite a few pots of turkish lentil soup, buckwheat bread.

in honor and celebration of kari’s new position at work and teddy paying off his car, tonight we shall feast on german chocolate cake.  congratulations roomies!

morning glows

last week there was a morning that surprised me (took my breathe away, in fact) by it’s colored light.  the dim lit snow glowed pinkish yellow, contrasting strangely to the blue shadows…  i’m not sure it comes across on film.  do i see it in this image because i saw it?  it’s utterly normal- snow covered yard, neighbor’s fence, car tracks.  yet, there’s something.

some things are best experienced.

100 layer cake

i’ve been following this fantastic blog for a while now.  they feature unique weddings and more d.i.y. ideas than you could dream up alone.  when they launched their website i was surprised to see that there was not a single photographer from indiana or michigan who had contributed their work to the marketplace.  just because we live in the midwest doesn’t mean we lack creativity, right?
