One of my favorite things is street life. I also love live music… combine the two and it’s hard for me to walk away.
my dad took my family to new orleans for the sugar bowl earlier this week. one of the highlights for me was visiting preservation hall, a fantastic hole in the wall venue founded in the 60′s to preserve new orleans jazz. the music, of course, was outstanding. at first it seemed like they would get bored while the other players played their solos, but then i realized by a smirk or nod that they were closing their eyes not out of boredom, but passion. they were really in it. i wonder if it makes more sense to musicians when they close their eyes. can you see music with your eyes closed?
the room was packed- standing room only. i didn’t have they best view, but maybe you can feel a bit of the tight space and intimacy that is part of the experience.
to celebrate the forth of july, a bunch of us brought a picnic to the white river. florence and the machines were playing at the lawn, so this way we got to hear the show and then see fireworks. mischon and i may have sneaked in to see florence during the encore. it was incredible. her dress! the colors!
fireworks were pretty good, too.
